Shabu Shabu - Yummy Yummy

On monday night Marc and Billy took us to a restaurant in Takadanobaba for Shabu Shabu and Sukiyaki. Shabu Shabu is sort of like Japanese fondue. Each of the tables has a burner built into it, and you get a pan of water to put on it. Once the water gets hot enough, they give you a big plate of vegetables, a plate of very thinly sliced raw beef and a plate of very thinly sliced raw pork. You drag the food through the water to cook it, and then you dip it into either a sauce or raw egg. They call it shabu shabu because they say that is the sound that the meat makes as you cook it in the water. Sukiyaki is pretty much the same, except instead of cooking the food in water, you cook it in Sukiyaki sauce. Both were really delicious!

Tuesday was a national holiday in Japan, so Marc and Billy were able to stay out a little bit later than usual Monday night because they didn't have to go to work in the morning. So after Shabu Shabu, we headed over to a bar around the block called The Cantina, for a round of drinks. Billy decided to ask the bartenders advice on what to drink. He recommended a bright green concoction that was clearly labelled in their menu as readers #1 choice! It was a bit too sweet for my liking, but Billy seemed to think it was ok.
